Funny Stories of Cal

So the kids and I had eye appointments the other day and as a reward for being SOOOO good everyone got to pick our something from the dollar store.  Cal picked a toy gun and a holster.  He has been wearing it every since.  When we put him to bed last night and told him to take off the gun and holster he said "but mom cowboys always sleep with their gun holsters."

Hair Cut... as you can see from the above picture Cal's hair has gotten long and since Spencer has been busy... he is the one who usually gives haircuts in this house because I don't cut hair...

So Spencer has been busy and I decided that I would tackle Cal's hair.  Got out the clippers opened the box and looked for the 5 or 6 size clipper... but no luck we have a 4 or a 7. I know that 7 will be too long so I decide to go with the 4.

The finished product....  Cal says that his hair not real big... and then told me that I should let Dad cut his hair next time.  I probably will!

Sick Days

Cal has been sick the past couple of days and we have had lots of time snuggling in bed reading books and watching the same episode of Little Einsteins over and over again...  Poor little guy...  His allergies have been terrible and he has been running a fever.  I blame the Flumist nose spray.  The three kids that had the Flumist - got sick the one who got a shot - not sick. Next year flu shots for everyone!

Cal's First Day of Preschool

On Monday (October 10, 2011)  Cal had his first day of Preschool.  He LOVED it!  When we got there he looked at the building and said "Whoa, my school is really BIG!"  The preschool is held at the Highscool so it is really big!  We went in and he hung up his stuff and said "bye mom"  No tears, no needing me to stay... that is a first for our kids.  He was so excited to be a big boy and go to school like his brother and sisters!
Here he is outside by the tree... waiting to get in the car!

Egg Day for Alycia

Today was egg drop day at Prairie View Elementary. Alycia was assigned to make a vehicle that would hold an egg and protect it from a drop
Of 20 feet.

It was a very intensive project.

She enlisted the help of her siblings and her dad for help

As Cal says "a big mess".

The final product turned out great.

Off to school to see how it fares.

Here is the drop

Final verdict....

SUCCESS! the egg did not break. Alycia was so happy!

Gettin' Down With Mama Goose

So every year the kindergartners put on a production "Gettin' Down With Mama Goose.". We have been privileged enough to get to see it three times now. Very exciting.

Davis had a speaking line

"is that about a clock?"

They also sang and sang and sang.

Cal's new do

Time for a hair cut. It has been so long that we went with a bowl cut this time.

Not sure what purpose the hair elastics served except to make me laugh.

Look at how handsome I am!

Davis Reading

Having taught two other children how to read I thought Davis would be a breeze. No such luck, there is no way to get my 4 year old to sit still (and inside) for a reading lesson. He is now 5 1/2 and is really coming along! It's exciting to see him get it!

No Electronic Weekend!

The kids school brought home a note saying that their school was sponsoring a no electronics weekend. No phones, televisions, DSI, iPods, computers, etc.

Spencer and I are thinking no way we can't do it... We did it and survived. We started at 7:00 p.m. Friday night and took the kids to sears to get a basketball. Saturday we spent the morning riding bikes then we headed to Isaac (our nephew's) eagle scout award ceremony. Then on to science center for the afternoon.

You know when you are exhausted and you you rent a movie and come home and relax. Nope not for us. Instead we had a family sleep over. We brought everyone's mattresses and blankets down. Told stories and fell asleep.

It was fun to spend the time with each other but we are glad we have our electronic devices back.
